Our VIP invite to Green Dragon Eco Farm

Posted by Rebecca Chamberlain

There’s so much to do at the Green Dragon Eco Farm, and with lots of it under cover; and with indoor and outdoor play areas too, it really is a great day out. With 44 acres to explore and lots of hands on activities it had both my 7 and 11 year old fully engaged for hours.

You can hand-feed the animals; Meet the donkeys; help to groom the ponies; See the birds of prey; Learn all about the eco farm; Meet their cold blooded creatures; and have lots of fun outdoors. In the farmyard there is a fleet of ride-on’s for pre-school children and pedal carts for the under tens. The adventure playground, next to the Soft Play Barn, includes a giant climbing frame, a bouncy pillow and huge sandpits with sand-diggers and special area for the under 5’s.

At the entrance to Dragon Field is the ‘Sleeping Dragon’, an earth mound for children to climb with great views of the farm. Beyond this are willow dens and areas of long grass in the Summer which are great for exploring. There is also an area for picnics and a Picnic Shed for visitors’ use in bad weather with a toilet block that is open during the Summer.

How long did it take?

You could spend a whole day at the Green Dragon Eco Farm with no difficulty, especially if the weather is good. There is so much to see and do, and with the fantastic indoor soft play area, and many outdoor play areas, you can really make it as long or short as you want.

Our highlights:

  • Hand Feed the animals – Animal feed can be bought at reception and there is a daily programme of animal encounters which varies according to the time of year where visitors can interact with the animals and learn about the different breeds and how they are cared for.
  • VIP wallaby visit – These encounters are available as part of a VIP birthday party or private booking and can be tailor-made to suit visitors of all ages. They are exclusive, hands-on experiences led by one of their trained livestock team where visitors can get close to the animals.
  • VIP owl encounter – We were very lucky to have not 1 but 2 VIP experiences with thanks to the team at the Eco Farm. My boys loved meeting the baby owl and the team were just fantastic with us. So much knowledge and their passion was lovely to see.
  • Seasonal activities – We visited Farmer Christmas and it really was excellent. Great build up to meeting the man himself. Meeting the reindeers and finding the treasure to feed them a special treat.
  • Fresh Pizza – Amazing fresh pizza from the wood-fired Dragon’s head oven next to the restaurant.

Overall

We had a great day out at the Green Dragon Eco Farm, our day pass was received as a gift from the team to Mum to Mum for Christmas but we are seriously considering purchasing the annual pass for 2019. Farmer Christmas was a really good addition to the main farm activities and we are looking forward to more events in 2019. We had a wonderful day and my boys are eager to return and would love to be a ranger for the day (see website for info). This really is a hidden gem and only 20 minutes drive from MK.

Huge thanks to the team for making us feel so welcome and sharing the amazing VIP experiences with us.
